The Final Touch: Why Every Custom Candle Needs Time to Cure

The Final Touch: Why Every Custom Candle Needs Time to Cure

When it comes to a Mae & George Home Fragrances custom candle, the artistry doesn’t end at the pour. One of the most important—and often overlooked—steps is curing. This quiet period allows your candle to fully develop its scent and structure, ensuring a stronger fragrance and a cleaner, more even burn. Curing is the key to unlocking their full potential.

What Is Candle Curing?

Curing is the process of letting a candle rest after it’s poured, allowing the fragrance oil and wax to fully bind. For our coconut soy wax blend candles, this typically takes 1 to 2 weeks. It’s a crucial step for achieving a strong scent throw and a clean, even burn.

Why Curing Candles Matters

  • Stronger Scent Throw: Curing enhances both the cold throw (scent when unlit) and hot throw (scent when burning), making your scented candle more aromatic.
  • Improved Burn Quality: A properly cured candle burns more evenly, reducing tunneling and maximizing burn time.
  • Longer Shelf Life: Cured candles retain their fragrance and structure longer, making them ideal for gifting or long-term use.

Patience Makes Perfect

While it’s tempting to light a freshly made candle right away, giving it time to cure ensures the best performance. Think of it as aging a fine wine—the wait enhances the experience.

For our custom candles, you’ll find a 'Best to Light By' date on the back of each Thank You Card. This marks the end of the curing period—so be sure to check it for the optimal time to enjoy your candle’s full fragrance.
